How to Register in All Fifty States + American Territories

Election information varies by state and territory. Check Vote.gov for current registration information for your home.

Remember: college students can register to vote where they go to college. However, you might consider registering in your home state/territory if you think you might move back after you graduate and instead vote by mail while in college.

US Voting Info: Absentee/Early/Vote by Mail

Absentee or mail-in ballots are always available from your home state if you will be away at the time of an election.

Some states conduct universal vote-by-mail elections. However, during the current COVID-19 crisis, a number of additional states are adopting widespread use of mail-in ballots to allow voters to vote from the safety of their homes.
Different states have different requirements and deadlines, so make sure you look into it early to give yourself enough time to request the ballot and return it for the primary and/or general elections.
