MT 650: Special Topics in Materials Science and Engineering

How and where to do a literature search on topics in materials science.

Where to Find The Research You Need

Here you will find useful resources to aid in literature searching, collecting the materials discussed in the lecture by Vicky Ludas Orlofsky, Instruction & Scholarly Communication Librarian. Want more help? Email me!

Hybrid ceramic surface, SEM

Hybrid ceramic surface, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). This surface is a hybrid material that combines alumina (a form of aluminum oxide) and the polymer polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). The structure seen here was designed to mimic that seen in a naturally tough material, mother-of-pearl, with a scaffold-like structure reinforcing the material internally. This work, published in 2008, was carried out at the Materials Sciences Division of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, California, USA.
