PLGA microspheres, SEM PLGA microspheres, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). PLGA, or poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid), is a copolymer used in a variety of biomedical devices such as grafts, sutures (stitches), implants, prosthetic devices, and micro and nanoparticles for drug delivery. PLGA is particularly well suited to these uses as a result of its biodegradability and bio-compatibility - It breaks down in the body to produce lactic acid and glycolic acid, both of which occur naturally in the body.
