About the PE and FE/EIT exams

If you're interested in professional engineering (P.E.) licensure, you first need to take the Fundamentals of Engineering / Engineer in Training (FE/EIT) exam, offered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). The FE/EIT exam is a computer-based, 6-hour, 110-question multiple choice exam administered at designated testing centers. The NCEES website offers additional details about the FE/EIT exam.

Engineering licensure is overseen at the state level. In New Jersey, the State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors is responsible for P.E. licensure.
