Primary and Secondary Sources

Primary Sources are materials that are examined for interpretation. These sources were present during an experience or time period and offer an inside view of a particular event.

Primary Sources can be:

  • Photographs
  • Original Documents
  • Interviews
  • Witness Accounts
  • Data/Statistics
  • Original Works of Literature or Art

Secondary Sources can be:

  • Scholarly articles interpreting work
  • Opinion Piece or article in Newspaper
